I have a typical (if slightly larger than average) family. We like curries and tea, ketchup and chocolate sauce (and the occasional glass of Merlot!). I do not clean up after my children, my guests or myself as swiftly as I perhaps should as I am usually too busy charging around or too relaxed to care. However, if I am going to spend a lot of money on a kitchen then I need to know that it won’t look like an old tea towel after one week.
So, I apply what I call ‘The Family Living Test’ to all of the flooring and worktop samples that get sent to me.

- Cumin powder mixed with olive oil
- Melted dark chocolate
- Hot espresso coffee
- Red wine
I leave the samples overnight and then I wash them with washing up liquid (this usually fails). I then squirt with kitchen cleaner, watch it bubble up and then wipe it off. I publish the results on
